Monthly Discussion: North & South (2004)

in Monthly Discussion, Series

north-south-01

One of our main goals when creating this blog was to watch historical productions (movies or series) and chat about them amongst ourselves and with our hopefully frequent visitors (yes you!).

So for our first discussion we’d like to suggest a favourite of ours, the BBC series North & South. We know there are already a lot of fans out there and we hope this will allow more people to watch it and hopefully enjoy it as much as we did!

There are a variety of subjects that the series and the book by Elizabeth Gaskell, in which it was based, cover, so we hope to have a lively discussion commenting on all its finer points! The discussion will begin on November 13th so everyone who’s interested in participating will have time to watch it first, if you want you can also read the book.

Here’s a little video for those who don’t know the series (but I’m sure the ones who already do will also enjoy it! ;-) ).

Till then!

Syrin,
Bleak House is also one of my favorite BBC series and I was especially surprised by Gillian Anderson’s performance. She is stunning! I completely agree with your review. :)

Oh and I love your blog, btw. Every time I want to know something about a particular serie, I always check it out first.

Ohhhh….
:)

Thanks Alex

I also loved your review Syrin! The only problem is that I really want to watch it now and I’ll have to wait till the weekend to visit FNAC!

In the mean time I’ll be watching the end of North and South tonight :-D

This was such a stupendous mini-series. I’m so glad that I took it out of the library to watch. There are so many parallels to what was happening in the mills in New England. Of course, now I’m madly in love with Richard Armitage. Looking forward to the discussion.

Fantasma October 16, 2007 at 4:25 pm

Well, I haven’t seen it yet…. ;)

Elizabeth,
It’s impossible not to be in love with Richard Armitage. :D The way he looks to Margaret is simply breathtaking…*sigh*

Sra Fantasma,
You simply have to see this serie. Now! ;-)

One more ignorant here! I’ve heard so much about it that I just imagina how great it must be, but still haven’t seen it!

I’m looking forward to the discussion, it’s already in my agenda.

Gosh I love a good excuse to watching it again… and again just in case I missed any details the first 20 times :)

Ana T. October 22, 2007 at 3:39 pm

LOL I think I haven’t watched it yet with the comments on so that will be my excuse ;-P

I’ve just recently discovered this wonderful series and already watched it a number of times so I’ll be looking forward most avidly to the discussion.
Richard Armitage is riveting and the series is so beautifully done.

Here is New Zealand, it’s now the 13th! I’m really looking forward to it being the 13th everywhere else, so the North and South experts can answer some questions I have about differences between the book and the movie!

syrin December 2, 2007 at 1:52 pm

Hey, guys… have you chosen a new series for the December discussion? ;)

Alex December 2, 2007 at 3:27 pm

We are talking about it right now. ;-)

Fantasma January 28, 2008 at 5:54 pm

Here I am, o sooooooooooooooooo late, but I finally saw the series, and I’m totally, utterly in love with Richard Armitage! OMG, that eyes…. Those brief hints of a smile!
I finally decided to pick up the series after seeing the last 2 episodes of The Vicar of Dibley by chance and discovering at the end credits that that gorgeous man was R.Armitage :P
Loved the series, and my favourite scenes are – of course – the last one, and the one where Margaret is leaving and John says: please look back to me…
Sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
;)

LOL Fantasma better late than never!! Glad to know you enjoyed it too. Did you watch the Vicar of Dibley on RTP last week? I was surprised to see they aired those 2 episodes because it’s been a while since they have aired the rest of the series…

Fantasma January 30, 2008 at 4:41 pm

Yeah, I saw those episodes by chance, and didn’t even know they were aired “alone”. I had already seen them but only now I discovered the man of my dreams!!!!!!!!! :P
