Besides discussing our favourite historical series and movies we’ll also try and keep you updated on all the new historical productions out there. If you want to help us, you can always send us an email and we’ll post it, giving you the proper credits of course. These news will be stored on a specific page – News Flash – where you can easily access them whenever you want.

Cranford 01

After the acclaimed series North & South (which we’ll be discussing in a month, starting November 13th), BBC is preparing another mini-series – Cranford – based on three different novels by Elizabeth Gaskell (Cranford, My Lady Ludlow and Mr Harrison’s Confessions). This new production will be aired in the UK in mid November and we hope the DVD will soon be making an appearance on worldwide shelves. With an outstanding cast that includes Francesca Annis, Dame Judi Dench, Lesley Manville and Julia Sawalha the 5 part mini series will hopefully be as successful as the previous productions BBC is famous for. You can watch a video of the shooting here and see some photos here.

On our TV at Home page we added some links for this new series that you can visit and gather more information to satisfy your curiosity.

I wonder if I should read the books before watching the series…

The book in on my wishlist, Ana T and I was thinking to get all the three (Cranford, My Lady Ludlow and Mr Harrison’s Confessions) before seeing the serie. Can’t wait to see it, Judi Dench is one of my favorite actresses. :D

I watched the final episode of Cranford Sunday evening 5/18/08 and I must say it does not disapoint. It starts out somewhat quirky but that is what is so addiciting about the series. You just have to know what these ladies of Cranford are thinking or what comes next with their “own” preception of what is going on around them. Judi Dench as always, is wonderful in her understated, demure representation of the women of the time 1840s. Although, I must say it was also a learning experience of the era and it just goes to say, we are all more alike, than unalike…we basically want the same basic needs… to be loved, wanted and acknowledged.
