Based on the novel by Flora Thompson that is loosely inspired in her childhood experiences, BBC One is showing a ten part drama set in Oxfordshire at the end of the 19th century. Although it is set in 3 different locations the series shows the appeal of rural England, its communities and the human relationships that last through good and bad times.

Seen from the point of view of a young girl who leaves the hamlet where she lived all her life for the market town, we are introduced to two different realities. With an all star cast that includes Dawn French (The Vicar of Dibley), Julia Sawalha (Pride & Prejudice) and Brendan Coyle (North and South) just to name a few, this promises to be a funny and refreshing story about a world in change!

The first episode was aired January 13th and for those who cannot follow the show, the DVD will be released in April.

We would love to be able to tell you when Lark Rise will be available in the US, but I’m afraid we will have to rely on the BBC for that. If we find out a date you’ll be the first to know.
