France 2 (French TV public channel) seems to be deeply immersed into historical fiction right now. This following Tuesday, the first of a series of episodes called “Ce jour-lá, tout a changé” (The day that made History), featuring 24 hours in the life of an historical personality, will be aired with The Assassination of Henry IV.
Paris, 14 May 1610. That night Henry IV dreams of his own murder. Several hours later, while crossing Paris in his carriage and without a proper escort, he is assassinated at la rue de la Ferronnerie by a religious fanatic, Ravaillac.
Filmed at the Château de Fontainebleau and in the streets of Chartres, we are expecting some gorgeous settings. Directed by Jacques Malaterre, he is followed by some very talented actors as Arnaud Bédouet (Henri IV), Chiara de Luca (Marie de Médicis), Olivier Augrond (le maréchal de Bassompierre), Priscilla Bescond (Charlotte de Montmorency), Marc Saez (le duc d’Epernon).
Two other episodes are already planned: The Coronation of Charlemagne and The Escape of Louis XVI in Varennes.
