Since 2007, the French TV channel France 2 is airing a series based in Guy de Maupassant short stories called Chez Maupassant. Until now we had 2 seasons each one with 8 episodes and we can only hope there will be more.

The cast is a perfect blending of famous actors and some less known but all very talented. The costumes and photography are gorgeous and after you begin watching this, you easily become addicted.

We’ll leave you with the trailer of the series:

Both seasons were very successful in France and the same team is preparing also a new set of short stories written by other known authors of the same period like Honoré de Balzac, Alphonse Daudet, Victor Hugo or even Emile Zola… This new series is called: Au siècle de Maupassant. The first episode will be aired the 10th March but we’ll talk more about it until then.

Are any of these going to come out with English subtitles? I’d love to see them!

I look online and actually there is an edition of Chez Maupassant with English subtitles but in Canada (Québec). I don’t know if they are easy to find. The French dvds don’t even have subtitles, only French audio.

It seems only Le Pére Amable and Toine have English subtitles…
