Bright Star

The story is based on the last years of the life of John Keats and his tumultuous relationship with his muse and next door neighbor, Fanny Brawne. She’s bright and passionate about fashion and slowly captures the interest of the lonely Keats who becomes completely fascinated by her.

With Abby Cornish and Ben Whishaw in the main roles and Jane Campion (The Piano) behind the camera, this is certainly something worth to be seen.

We leave you with the trailers and some beautiful images:

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

Keanu Reeves 01

Jekyll, a new adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s novella The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is in the works. With script by Justin Haythe it has just been announced that Keanu Reeves will star in the leading roles. We have some doubts about what they are going to do with it but it might just that its because we’re not really Keanu’s fans. Of course the fact that mention it as a “modern retelling” might just put it outside this blog’s usual time period.

There’s also another adaptation of the same classic piece called Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, but this one directed by Guillermo del Toro, sounds much more interesting and we’re looking forward to know who else is going to be attached to the project. Unfortunately that doesn’t seem to be for next couple of years.

Keanu Reeves is only good when he doesn’t have to say much and just sits there looking pretty. Hence the Matrix is actually a good role for him. I have a hard time believing he can encompass two such characters as Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde….and yet the idea of it being a modern retelling perks my curiosity.
The other looks amazing. And those flowers – so gorgeous! The trailer doesn’t work so I’m off to google it, but thanks for the review.

I completely agree, Anorthite! I liked Matrix but it’s true that it helps when Reeves doesn’t have much to say in a movie. ;-) I’m really looking forward to Del Toro’s version of the story.
The embedding of the video was disabled and I didn’t noticed… Just upload another and gave the link to the original one. The images are gorgeous! Can’t wait to see the movie.

Aw, why are you gals so hard on Keanu? I loved him in A Walk in the Clouds and in The Lakehouse, as well as The Matrix (but I know what you mean). I was disappointed to hear that Jekyll was going to be a modern retelling. I seem to be hopelessly stuck in the past!

Same here Charleybrown, I would be much more entusiastic about an historical movie…

Just watched Bright Star 2 nights ago. Loved it! I LOVED Fanny’s outfits. This was a great movie!

Hmm I’m not a big Keanu fan either so I’m a little worried about this adaptation. I’m also sorry that it doesn’t look like it will be a period film, especially because the BBC already has a fantastic modern retelling starring James Nesbitt!
