Foyle’s War is one of those really fine dramas that you get caught up in for a number of reasons. Although it is a detective series, the characters themselves are what draw you back week after week. In the final analysis, I cared what happened to Foyle, his son, his driver, and his detective sergeant more than the outcome of the investigations, even though the plots were pleasingly intricate. The characters grew and matured as the season progressed. This is a series set during WWII, in England, in the seaside town of Hastings. The stories deal with complex topics such as anti-semitism among Brits, prejudice, and honesty, to name a few. The way these issues are presented in each episode leaves you thinking. Nothing is cut and dry. This is a very satisfying series because of the excellent writing, the fine character portrayals, and engaging plots. I believe I read somewhere on the Internet that when Foyle’s War ended, there was such a public outcry that they had to bring it back for another season. I can certainly understand why. Do yourselves a favor and watch an episode or two. I guarantee you’ll be hooked like the rest of us. Oh, and you might need a hankie now and then.

I have this in my “to be seen” pile and am now very curious about it. Thanks for the review Teje! :-)
I have seen a couple of episodes of Foyle’s War but haven’t made a point of keeping up with it. After your recommendation and those from others, I should make the effort to tune in! Thanks!
Great review! I absolutely LOVE this series! My husband and I just watched the last episode and I’m so bummed it’s over! And yes I cried a few times! I think it’s one of the best historical fiction series around!
