A bit late (real life is taking a bit of our time) but we wanted to share the latest news about Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood. Universal Pictures has just released the trailer and the synopsis:
“Oscar winner Russel Crowe stars as the legendary figure known by generations as ‘Robin Hood,’ whose exploits have endured in popular mythology and ignited the imagination of those who share his spirit of adventure and righteousness. In 13th century England, Robin and his band of marauders confront corruption in a local village and lead an uprising against the crown that will forever alter the balance of world power. and whether thief or hero, one man from humble beginnings will become an eternal symbol of freedom for his people.
“Robin Hood adventure chronicles the life of an expert archer, previously interested only in self-preservation, from his service in King Richard’s army against the French. Upon Richard’s death, Robin travels to Nottingham, a town suffering from the corruption of a despotic sheriff and crippling taxation, where he falls for the spirited widow Lady Marion (Cate Blanchett), a woman skeptical of the identity and motivations of this crusader from the forest. Hoping to earn the hand of Maid Marion and salvage the village, Robin assembles a gang whose lethal mercenary skills are matched only by its appetite for life. Together, they begin preying on the indulgent upper class to correct injustices under the sheriff.
“With their country weakened from decades of war, embattled from the ineffective rule of the new king and vulnerable to insurgencies from within and threats from afar, Robin and his men heed a call to ever greater adventure. This unlikeliest of heroes and his allies set off to protect their country from slipping into bloody civil war and return glory to England once more.”
This is a movie we are curious about but the trailer didn’t exactly blown us away, what do you think?
It will be released in 2010.

I really don’t know what to think of this trailer. It seems so blah… Horses, fight, horses, fight, horses,… And Crowe really is too old to play Robin Hood.*sigh* If I see this, it will be entirely because of Cate Blanchet (also too old to be Maid Marian but she’s such an outstanding actress).
LOL you may even be right about him being too old but between him and Jonas Armstrong there really is no contest is there? And I’m totally in agreement about Cate Blanchett! :-)
Wow, you’re right. Not the trailer I was expecting. Maybe they’re trying to pseudo modernize it like that knight movie…sorry, lost memory there.
I agree that the trailer didn’t do too much for me. It definitely looks different than any other Robin Hood I have seen before – not sure if that is a good thing or not. I will most likely see it, because my boyfriend will want to. I was thinking that Russell Crowe was too old myself!
Can this get any more bad reviews? This is a teribble trailer, promising us a dark, bloody movie. They should’ve cast Crowe as the Sheriff of Nottingham or the witch or something. But he is definitely no Robin. And Cate Blanchet seems to cold in the Trailer. She looks like a great Dame but not a maid. Her waiflike looks don’t help. For me Blanchett is growing to be a second Nicole Kidman. No mimic, just ice cold beauty.
Anyway, this trailer didn’t surprise me or made me want to watch this movie.
I absolutely trust in whatever you have written, Ana. I was making just a joke, but answering one of my commentators, I assured your site is abslutely reliable. Thanks for your excellent work.
No worries Valéria, I just wanted to make sure they knew where the information came from. :-)
